Relay Team 3: Kim and the Kelp Kickers

Kim Garbarino

TEAM NAME: Kim and the Kelp Kickers

TEAM MEMBERS: Kim Garbarino, Bob McCormack, Jurriaan Peters, and Sean Barrow

HOMETOWNS: Winthrop, Brockton, Marblehead, and Swampscott, MA

BLS EXPERIENCE: Jurriaan: First time! I wanted a challenge, but more so, I wanted to be part of the BLS experience. For many years, I had heard about it, and I knew Kim Garbarino had participated many times. In 2021 I got in (lottery) but deferred to 2022, and then had to cancel as "life got in the way". This time, I am excited to join -- perhaps in preparation for a solo swim one day.

WHY BLS? Kim: I sign up for the BLS swim because it is the second oldest marathon swim in the world, the first of course being the English Channel

WHO IS YOUR PILOT AND CREW? Pilot John Forgione

Jurriaan Peters

WHERE ARE YOU SWIMMING FOR YOUR BLS TRAINING? Devereux Beach in Marblehead and YMCA Masters

SWIMMING FUN FACTS:

  • Jurriaan: My longest swim was the "Misery Challenge", where we swam from Manchester by the Sea to Misery Island and back. The current made my triangle look like a rectangle and I found my self swimming towards the islands in the opposite direction of the people returning. I swam over a mile too much, that day, from swaying off course.

  • Kim: In 2008 my first Boston Light Swim I told myself I was going to do one then done. Since then I have completed the route over 20 times!
